Ray Martin

Ray received recognition for his services to the community through voluntary roles with charitable, indigenous, health and sporting organisations - and to the media as a television journalist.

Ray's connection to The Foundation dates back to his friendship with Fred, which developed when Ray was covering the eye doctor's work in remote Indigenous communities. He served as The Foundation's inaugural chairman for ten years until 2002, and was recently presented with a lifetime membership.

Nigel Milan received a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in this year's Australia Day Honours.

Nigel was recognised for his services to radio and television, and to the community through his association with eye health, medical and arts organisations.

He played a very large role in the establishment of The Foundation - as a board member for 15 years, and Chairman from 2002 to 2007.

When Fred was our Australian of the Year

Fred Hollows was named Australian of the Year for 1990. Two decades on, we thought we'd look back at what some people wrote about him at the time of receiving this great honour.
